From Ug to Doug

Ran across this story of a partially blind, Pointer mix that was adopted by a wonderful family in Britain.  Meet Doug nee Ug.

In all my life, I've never met a soul that is as pure as a dog.  Forget outside looks, and look inside.

This dog makes me want to cry.  I don't even want to know what happened to him.  But I am so happy that he's found a home with a family and I hope they stay together.

Christmas 2010

We put up the Christmas tree on Thanksgiving day.  Which is a departure from my vigorous denial of all things "early Christmas".  But she was so cute and really really REALLY wanted the Christmas tree put up.

And really, when a Buddist begs you to put up your Christmas tree, how can a guy POSSIBLY resist?!?!?

I love that girl.

Today, Friday October 29th

Work all day.  Stress stress stress.  Take care of business.  Make the client happy.  There is no success without failure.
Come home to:

My girl
She makes me dinner
We sit at the table
And we talk
And laugh
The music plays
We dance
And laugh some more (I am a TERRIBLE dancer) (hahahaha)
Then we clean up
And we walk, hand in hand

And later, my sweet little dog, sniffs my foot and looks at me with love.  And tells me silently that he loves me and always will.

My life is filled with love.
I've been meaning to put something up here for a while now. Decided tonight that I would just start typing. Work's kept me pretty busy lately. And what is left over from work is taken (gladly) by the Sweet Girl.

I've been thinking a lot about the state of things with the apparent political rejection of Democrats, the ascendancy of the GOP and the abject failure of the established media to cover anything but negative aspects of all things conservative. Par for the course if you ask me...

It's amazing that in spite of the overwhelming negative press, conservatives are prevailing. Wouldn't it be amazing if the playing field were leveled? But I digress. The real problems that society should be dealing with are...

ZOMBIES!

Specifically Zombie Kittehs.  Can't blame them for being so cute and wanting to eat delicious brains.

Obamacare

Obamacare is starting to kick in. I enjoyed hearing that a judge in Michigan decided that's it's okay for the government to force an individual to purchase something. What could go wrong?!?!

The hypocrisy of this administration is stunning in it's brutal disregard for the principals which made this country great.

Getting under the Sciencemongers skin...

So the leader of the Get Stewed Science Mongers bursts into my office and slams a piece of paper on my desk.  It's a photo from a website.  Photobomb:

Says the Science Monger lead, "If they're going to steal pictures, at least they could give us credit!"

Free Range Llama Humans coming soon to a pasture near you...

Happy Birthday to my Sweet Girl

You.

That's the key.  Everyone is more interested in themselves than others.  This is a basic premise in sales, psychology, prostitution and (at the risk of redundancy) politics.

My Baby, the Princess, is having a birthday soon and while I'm busy planning to spoil her, love her and make her time special she goes and...

Gets me a gift.

A watch.  A Lucien Piccard.  Not because I need one, but because she wants to be freaking wonderful.

When I found her, I was not searching.
In her, I see the best that I can be.
In me, she knows that I am her rock.

God has a plan, you can fight it, or you can enjoy the ride.

Happy Birthday Princess Sexpot!

On our President

I disagree with President Obama on pretty much everything he's saying and doing.  I'm disappointed in my country for believing in what, to me, was a clear sham of a politician.

But I want to take a moment and point out something. President Obama is a man. A human. He's got a family that loves him. He has a mom and a dad just like you. You may completely disagree with EVERYTHING that he says and does (like yours truly) but try and remember that he's human just like you.  Treat him with dignity.  Not to say you can't enjoy the egg which is, apparently, permanently plastered on his face, but really, he's just a man.  And he is our President at that.

Then remember all the love that Bush received from his detractors and take comfort in knowing that we, on the right; the supposedly evil, greedy, rich, unfeeling, assholes are...

Just better people than those on the left.

I can see November from my window!

Beaker always gets it...

8:30

Every day, I still look for Chloe's pills.  Her schedule was 8:30, morning and night.  Funny how the habit stills holds strong.

I cleaned out all her pills, medicine containers, etc and found all these little plastic spoons.

Had to laugh because she would only take her pills when I teased her with food a spoonful at a time.

I think it's way easier dealing with Chloe's loss than some previous dogs.  It still hurts pretty bad but it ended so well.  I was dreading having to make the decision to put her to sleep.  Her going peacefully in her sleep the morning of the day that I had her scheduled to meet the vet at our house?  It's like she wanted to spare me the pain.

She was a great dog.

Mr. President

You should be ashamed of yourself

Saw the news today that President Obama used his radio address to talk about Jobs His Lazer Focus On Jobs America reaching 1960's poverty levels Lowering taxes Reducing the size of the Federal Government Closing Guantanamo advertisements that might be run against democrats.

I'm no teleprompter but I think I can roughly recall some of what he said:

When you hear ads against democrats ask yourself who is funding these ads.  Is it big oil?  Is it the healthcare industry?  Is it some other shady entity?  Americans deserve to make a fair choice this November.

Mr. President, you are a hypocrite.  And a dangerous one at that.

This man has no shame and will stretch the truth as far as he can.  He likely believes that he's doing the right thing (in spite of my overt disdain for Obama, I still must respect the office of the President) but it's disturbing to see this.  He HAS to know what he's doing.

Sometimes I fear for my country.

Of bleach, and a garage door...

Quickly, thanks to everyone for your kind words on Chloe. It's okay, she was almost 16 years old. She'll be missed but I had several years to love her and make her feel special. Thank you all.

So I'm smitten. Been walking around in a fog for a while telling anyone who'd listen (and some that didn't really want to listen, take for instance the file clerk at Macy's who got to hear my mewling love smitten blather, she would've thrown something at me if her manager hadn't walked in and interrupted...). Life is pretty good. I'm happy, one cute little old muppet short but it's alright.

And the Sweet Girl wants me to be neater. Anyone who knows me know that neatness and organization don't really get along all that well in Stew-land. Or at least that's been my historical modus operandi. The Sweet Girl has cured me though.

Amazingly enough I'm actually getting organized. The garage was becoming a great big cluttered mess. And I kept thinking about just cleaning it up. So last weekend, I did. Pulled everything out, tossed the old stuff, gave away some stuff that I didn't need anymore and painted the floor. It's really really nice now. And this is so unlike me that it's sometimes scary walking into the garage.

The rest of the house is spotless (of course) and now there's nothing holding me back from simply maintaining the clean. Gotta say, it feels really good.

The amazing thing is that this is really due to the Sweet Girl. She inspired me. And because I know that she likes the clean, neat, organization, it's really enjoyable for me too.

This is so weird.

Chloe passed away

Chloe and Stew hanging out with the ear rubbies.

Chloe and Prince Ali ('Lil Bastard) inseparable

Chloe was such a part of my life that I think I'm still numb. Every part of my life was touched by that little angel. Cannot begin to express how much this hurts.

With all the brouhaha over extending unemployment benefits

I just wonder if anyone is noting that an economic recovery

Usually means that you don't need unemployment benefits...

Enjoy the recovery!

Memories

Seems like I just met her yesterday. Life is so different and there is so much happiness, it's surreal. I sometimes literally have to concentrate on NOW just to remind myself that this isn't a dream. I'm actually this happy making her happy.

We are in love.

In a daydream

Ever listen to Medved or Hewitt? Sometimes their bumper music plays this song. It's "In a daydream" by The Freddy Jones Band.

I love this song. Listened to it today while prepping for boring fiber under roadways (we're doing a campus fiber job at work). I got to ride on the ditch witch diesel trencher and just let this song drown out reality.

Enjoy!

Happy Independence Day

Today we celebrate the fourth of July. The day that we declared independence from England some 230+ years ago.

I am spending time with the girl that swept me off my feet, made me realize that there is a reason for being me, and showed me what a wonderful person can do influencing my life.

These Vietnamese folks are just wonderful. And they love America.

Happy Birthday USA!

...giving your heart

for a dog to tear...

To the park today. Chloe couldn't make it. Her gait is wrecked. She literally can't walk straight. So I gave her a couple of treats and headed out with The 'Lil' Bastard.

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Chloe pretty much just sleeps these days.  Her bouts of incontinence come and go, we've traced these mostly down to that tumor (we think).  I was supposed to take her to a specialist to get an ultrasound but work intruded.  Now with this problem with her walking I'm wondering if the tumor is somehow impacting her spinal cord.  Not sure.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie--
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

Prince Ali, aka 'Lil' Bastard however, is doing well. We arrive at the dog park and he is, as usual, bouncing around like a rabid Tasmanian Devil on a heavy cocktail of speed and meth and I strike up a conversation with a fellow park-goer. This person immediately notices the absence of Miss Piggy and comments.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find--it's your own affair--
But...you've given your heart for a dog to tear.

y'all, I am standing there talking about Piglet and suddenly notice that not only am I crying, it's spread to everyone around me. This group of people start talking about our dogs, life and death, the inevitability of it all and, the whole time, all the dogs are quietly lying at their respective masters feet.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!);
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart for the dog to tear.

I discovered Rudyard Kipling's The Power of a Dog years ago when Riggs passed on.  That was a defining moment in my life as I realized that it's not just me that is so deeply affected by the passing of a dog.  Many lose dogs and keep right on going as if nothing happened.  Not me.  And the prospect of losing Miss Piggy's little muppet bottom is sad enough.  But it's eclipsed by the almost certainty of knowing that it's probably going to take me making a conscious decision to end her life.  That's the hardest part.

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long--
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Photos of me and Chloe Nekkid have been redacted...

I had to give Miss Piggy a bath today.  She was starting to smell like my feet after a long hike (in a completely unrelated note, I hiked up Stoned Mountain today with my Sweet Girl.  And I was wearing a 30lb backpack.  Going up was no problem but it started getting really uncomfortable on the way down.  Perhaps I should start wearing something other than flip flops...).  Bathing her in the shower stall (it's easier to just get in with them when it's bath time) (Chloe not the Sweet Girl) (well, actually...)  I got a chance to look at her old, freckled, sparsely hair covered, lumpy body.  She really has aged a lot in a short period of time.  Very sad.  Anyway, I decided to give that little bastard a bath at the same time.  So we ended up with two, soggy, furkids needing attention.  I dig it that they love each other.

Miss Piggy

Chloe has a tumor.  It's in her butt.  I wish I was joking but I'm not.  It was about grape sized when discovered three to four months ago and now it's almost the size of a plum.  The biopsy showed benign but it's going to block her bum and she won't be able to poop.  Which is bad.

I may be considering a pretty sad thing someday soon.  I may be able to have the tumor removed but that would make her incontinent (and she's already peeing everywhere about every five minutes).

Chloe is 15 and a half years old.  Pretty good for a dog that my vet told me wouldn't last past ten (when she was diagnosed with epilepsy).

I love my little "Miss Piggy".

I changed my mind

I was going to post some pithy thoughts

Probably relevant in some form or fashion

But nonetheless, lost in the signal to noise ratio

So, nevermind.  Have a happy weekend.  Enjoy something.  Revel in something good.  Maybe nothing bad has happened in a while, hope the trend continues.

Life is what you make it.  So make it good.

It's time that Jewish people woke up

The Democrat Party isn't your friend

Watching some Jewish people blindly backing the Democrat Party Regime is becoming scary.  Consider this:

Jeff Goldberg:--- Do you think that Israel is a drag on America’s reputation overseas?

Barack Obama:--- No, no, no. But what I think is that this constant wound, that this constant sore, does infect all of our foreign policy. The lack of a resolution to this problem provides an excuse for anti-American militant jihadists to engage in inexcusable actions, and so we have a national-security interest in solving this, and I also believe that Israel has a security interest in solving this because I believe that the status quo is unsustainable. I am absolutely convinced of that, and some of the tensions that might arise between me and some of the more hawkish elements in the Jewish community in the United States might stem from the fact that I’m not going to blindly adhere to whatever the most hawkish position is just because that’s the safest ground politically.

Obama's remarks seem to parallel those of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

In yet another verbal attack against Israel, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called the Jewish state a "filthy bacteria" whose sole purpose was to oppress the other nations of the region.

"The world powers established this filthy bacteria, the Zionist regime, which is lashing out at the nations in the region like a wild beast," the Iranian president told supporters at a rally in southern Iran.

Come to think of it, a Mr. A. Hitler had some remarks along these lines.

Against the infection of materialism, against the Jewish pestilence we must hold aloft a flaming ideal. And if others speak of the World and Humanity we say the Fatherland - and only the Fatherland!

My Jewish friends, you better wake up.  Democrats and Progressives are NOT your friends.  Learn from history.  Before it's too late.

Joke Time (featuring a cameo by W)

George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to hell.

While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth.

Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes.  When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a check.

Next Queen Elizabeth calls England and talks for 30 minutes.  When she is finished the devil informs her that the cost is 6 million dollars, so she writes him a check.

Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours.  When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is $5.00.

When Putin hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call the USA so cheaply.

The devil smiles and replies: "Since Obama took over, the country has gone to hell, so it's a local call."

Obama and the Nuclear Treaty Issues

So our President wants to reduce the number of Nukes we have and pledges not to use nuclear weapons against any country which also doesn't have nuclear weapons.  Interesting in a crazy sort of way.  Perhaps he's forgotten completely about detente.  Or maybe there is some other way to apply a special secret mixture of Hope and Change that will bring about whirled peas that we, the Hoi Polloi, simply aren't aware of yet.

Regardless, I wouldn't particularly worry all that much.  I mean it's not like that man has told the truth about ANYTHING so far.  Reference the healthcare bill.  It's "reducing costs", "expanding coverage", "making healthcare fair".  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  Not to mention the "healthcare" bill now provides Student Loans.  Which makes perfect sense as healthcare and student loans are practically the same thing.  Sure.

I took the liberty of running some of Obama's statements through the Get Stewed Sciencemonger's new Translat-O-Ramabama machine (made especially to translate Obama into actual truthful statements).

He's saying that we are going to reduce the number of nuclear weapons.

Translation, he's privy to a special physics principal which allows puppy breath to be converted into a specialized gas which will kill Russians and anyone named Putin.

He's saying that we won't use Nuclear weapons against any country.

Translation, we will kill you (unless you are a Teletubby).

I grow weary of typing.  The sweet girl wants pineapple.

Stew out~

Congrats America

You've got Socialized Healthcare!

Over half the country thinks this is a bad idea.  It's going to be challenged in court for years.  I as well as others will be dedicating a tremendous amount of time and money dedicated to removal of democrats that voted Yes on this horrible monstrosity of a bill.

There are so many different ways to fix the problems instead of this horror show that we're being saddled with that it's sad.

I wonder if secession is going to be a topic anytime soon?

Update:
These are the Georgia Congress representatives that voted Yes.
Sanford Bishop
Henry Johnson
John Lewis
David Scott

All Democrats.  Sadly, if all four of these representatives voted No, the attempt would've failed.

More posting

Just when you thought you were safe...

Been so busy that I haven't really had a chance to post.  New businesses getting started, growing my existing business, it's really been crazy.  I'm very very happy and enjoying life in spite of the efforts of those that would derail me.  I pray every night that certain people find peace and happiness.  I forgive those that need to be forgiven (and I forgive myself).  When I say I'm really happy I'm really REALLY happy.  I had gained a little weight back.  Perhaps it's a side effect of being happy.  Regardless, I must lose weight lest I become a fat fat fattie.

So, exercise.  And eating better.  Again.

I'm now 190lbs.  That's in a week of dieting, and I'm down from just under 200.  I'm going to chronicle it this time.  Think a goal will help me reach it sooner.  I'd like to hit 170.  I'd give it two months.

In June I'm going to Oregon to climb Mt. Hood.  So I have (HAVE) to be in shape for that.  Weight keeps vacillating slightly between +1 and -3.  As long as the trend is down I think I'm doing good.

Chloe update
Chloe is not doing as well as I'd hoped at this stage of her life.  She's really become hard of hearing and is not seeing nearly as well as she should.  Basically she's deaf and blind at this point.  Its really hard to watch her as she sort of comes unglued.  But it's inevitable.  She's just a sweet old girl.  Pictures of the sweet big old muppet bear are interspersed.

Obama renews Patriot Act

Crickets chirp as the mainstream media fails to report this

So did you hear about Obama's signing the Patriot Act renewal?  Perhaps it's because Bush was reviled for signing the act and nobody wants to admit that Obama is just doing the same thing Bush did.  Which, if it's true cracks me up to no end.

Those of you who claim no media bias, take note.

Songs

You don't look a day over fast cars and freedom

"Starin' at you takin' off your makeup
Wonderin' why you even put it on
I know you think you do,but baby you don't need it
Wish that you could see what I see when it's gone"
Rascal Flatts, from Feels Like Today

And I have a new favorite. Already in a daydream by the Freddy Jones band. It's the bumper music used on Hugh Hewitt and sometimes on Michael Medved's shows. Enjoy.

Democrats attempting to pass Cap and Trade legislation this week

So much for the Presidential pledge to make jobs the focal point.  Cap and Trade kills jobs, this comes not from a random person with an opinion, this comes from a business owner.  The one thing that Cap and Trade WILL definitely accomplish is a great big fat gift to lobbyists.  Other than that, it's unnecessary and will further increase the scope of the Federal Government.  What is unconscionable is the support from spineless "Republican" senator Lindsey Graham.  I'd expect it from the liberal and progressive members of Congress (all they want to do is increase the size and power of government) but not Republicans.

So I sent Mr. Graham a letter.  If you'd like to do the same, email him here.

My email to Lindsey Graham:

Mr. Graham.
I realize that I'm not in your constituency (being in a neighboring state), however, I feel compelled to contact you.  Your blind support of Cap and Trade is unbelievable.  I'm a 3 person small business, trying desperately to become a 30 person small business.  Your actions are a disgrace to conservative values and will lead to nothing but harm for those already stressed by this poor economy.

Beware the unintended consequences of this bill.  It's a boondoggle and do you really want your legacy connected with this horrible idea?  It's not working well in Europe yet the proven free market DOES work.  Please fight for us, not for more government, more lobbying, less free market.
reference http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/index.php?Article_ID=14411

Take a stand sir, do not support more government programs that will further transfer power to an already too large government.

Respectfully,
Stewart Magooert
